What Are Paleo Foods?

Paleo foods are everything included or allowed in the Paleo diet. There is quite strict, but not limiting set of rules concerning the types of foods you can eat in this diet. Paleo diet (sometimes referred to as caveman diet, Stone Age diet, hunter-gatherer diet, and primal diet) is increasingly popular these days, and it goes by very simple question: What did our ancestors eat? The answer can be as simple as: everything natural. Imagine a scenario where you wake up in the morning with nothing going on in your mind except what you are going to eat and how you are going to get it.

Such answer can include a whole lot of foods, and it does in fact. However, every single food should be as natural as it can be. In other words, Paleo diet recommends eating foods straight from the nature without too much processing; let’s eat the way our Ancestors did. The diet basically limits exposure to chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, and additives which did not exist back in the Stone Age. Calories play major role in weight gain, but Paleo foods can help reduce the amount of calories stored in your body as fat. Whole foods and any other unprocessed foods require more energy to digest. Paleo foods do contain calories, but your body actually uses plenty of energy to digest them. By the time you chew, swallow, digest, and absorb, your body burns more calorie that the calorie that the foods have.

In the long run, consistent consumption of Paleo foods greatly increase the intakes of various nutrients including but not limited to protein, monounsaturated fats, omega 3 fatty acids, and polyunsaturated fatty acids. At the same time, you reduce the intake of dietary cholesterol, dietary carbohydrate, and omega 6 fatty acids. All of those lead to multiple health benefits and reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome diseases.
